Preventive Care

At Pediatric Dental Arts, we believe prevention is the foundation of a healthy smile. Our care includes gentle cleanings, thorough exams, fluoride treatments, and sealants — all tailored to your child’s specific needs. We also emphasize early dental visits and parent education, giving families the tools to build strong home care routines and healthy habits from the very start. Our goal is to support lifelong oral health for every child in Bedminster and nearby communities.

Restorative Procedures

When a tooth has a cavity or damage, restoring it early helps protect the tooth’s structure and prevent further problems. We offer tooth-colored fillings for treating small to moderate cavities, chips, areas where enamel has worn down, or developmental defects that affect the tooth’s strength or appearance. These fillings are strong, safe, and blend naturally with your child’s smile.

Whether a filling is needed depends on several factors: how advanced the cavity is, how long the tooth is expected to stay in the mouth without causing infection, and your child’s overall dental health. We carefully evaluate each case to choose the best option.

For deeper decay that reaches the nerve of a baby tooth, we may recommend a pulpotomy — sometimes called a “baby root canal” for simplicity, though it’s a much less invasive procedure. In a pulpotomy, we gently remove the infected portion of the nerve tissue inside the tooth, leaving the healthy part intact. This helps relieve discomfort, prevent infection, and preserve the tooth’s natural structure until it’s ready to fall out on its own.

If a tooth needs extra protection, we may place a crown. Stainless steel crowns are typically used on back molars for durability, while tooth-colored crowns may be used on front teeth for a more natural look. Every treatment plan is designed with your child’s comfort, function, and long-term dental health in mind.

Emergency Care

Dental emergencies can be stressful for both kids and parents. Whether your child experiences a knocked-out tooth, a painful cavity, a broken tooth, or sudden swelling, we provide prompt treatment to relieve pain and prevent further damage.

Our team is available to assist you, even after office hours. We offer an after-hours emergency phone line so you can reach us anytime for guidance and support when unexpected dental issues arise. We’ll quickly assess the situation, provide the necessary treatment, and help your child get back to feeling comfortable as soon as possible.

Sedation Options: Nitrous Oxide & IV Sedation

We understand that some children may feel anxious or need extra help to have a comfortable dental visit. To support our patients, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for mild sedation, which helps your child relax while remaining awake and responsive. For more extensive procedures or for children who require deeper sedation, we provide IV sedation administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, ensuring the highest level of safety and care. Our sedation options are tailored to each child’s needs, with safety and comfort as our top priorities.

Special Needs Care

Every child deserves dental care that respects their unique needs and comfort. We provide a calm, patient, and adaptable environment for children with medical, behavioral, or developmental challenges. Dr. Tannaz’s pediatric dental training included extensive experience in treating patients with special healthcare needs of all ages, including those with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, sensory processing challenges, and complex medical conditions. We work closely with families to create personalized care plans using techniques and tools that support each child’s well-being. At Pediatric Dental Arts of Bedminster, our goal is to make dental visits as positive and stress-free as possible for every child, no matter what their needs may be.

Airway-Focused Dentistry

Your child’s dental development is deeply connected to how they breathe and sleep. At Pediatric Dental Arts, we take an airway-conscious approach, screening not only teeth but also breathing patterns and sleep quality during annual checkups. Why this matters: According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects approximately 1–5% of children, most commonly between ages 2 and 7. Left untreated, sleep-disordered breathing may impact a child’s behavior, learning, growth, and long-term health and is even linked to symptoms commonly associated with ADHD. We work closely with airway-focused orthodontists, myofunctional therapists, and pediatric sleep specialists to support proper breathing, jaw development, and overall well-being through early identification and coordinated care. In Pediatric Dental Arts, our goal is to identify concerns early and guide families toward the right care for healthier development and a better quality of life.

Custom Mouthguards

Active kids need protection, and that includes their teeth. Whether your child plays sports or participates in physical activities, a custom-fit mouthguard can help prevent injuries to the teeth, lips, cheeks, and jaw. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, up to 39% of dental injuries in children are sports-related, many of which could be prevented with a properly fitted mouthguard. The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) mandates mouthguards for several high-contact sports in high school. These include football, field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse. Additionally, wrestling is mandated for athletes wearing braces. At Pediatric Dental Arts, we create custom mouthguards tailored to your child’s smile, including designs specifically for children with braces. A proper fit means better comfort, better protection, and a better chance your child will actually wear it.

Minimally Invasive Dentistry

At Pediatric Dental Arts, we use minimally invasive techniques such as Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) and ICON resin infiltration to treat early cavities while preserving healthy tooth structure, often without the need for drilling or numbing. These minimally invasive options are safe, effective, and designed to provide excellent outcomes with as little intervention as possible.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF):  SDF is a topical liquid that stops cavity progression by combining the antibacterial properties of silver with fluoride to strengthen enamel. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), SDF can arrest caries in over 70% of cases, especially with repeated application. It’s ideal for young, anxious, or special needs patients, as it requires no local anesthesia. The only side effect is that the treated decay will darken — a sign that the cavity has been successfully stopped.

ICON Resin Infiltration:  ICON is a gentle, no-drill treatment for early decay between teeth or cosmetic white spot lesions. It works by infiltrating the porous enamel to stop cavity progression and improve appearance. Clinical studies show that ICON increases enamel strength and can help prevent decay from advancing.

Extractions & Space Maintainers

Sometimes, baby teeth need to be removed early, whether due to infection, trauma, or crowding. At Pediatric Dental Arts, we only recommend tooth extractions when absolutely necessary and always focus on making the experience as gentle and stress-free as possible.

When a primary tooth is lost too early, it can affect the way permanent teeth erupt. In these cases, we may recommend a space maintainer — a small custom-made appliance that holds the space open and prevents shifting of surrounding teeth. This helps support proper bite development and may reduce the need for orthodontic treatment in the future.

With the right planning, we can guide your child’s dental growth and help prevent more complex issues later on.

Pediatric Dental Arts proudly promotes healthy smiles and lifelong oral health for children in Bedminster and surrounding communities — including Pluckemin, Gladstone, Far Hills, Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Bridgewater, Peapack, and beyond.
